During the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus told his followers: “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others in order to be seen. If you do, you will have no reward from God. For example, when you give to the needy, do not announce it loudly with trumpets as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets so the people will praise them. They have already received their reward in full.”
